The Blessing Ngobeni Art Prize is a self-funded initiative founded by the artist Blessing Ngobeni in 2016. The Prize aims to assist young artists to begin their careers. Tendai Mupita a Zimbabwean based artist was the first recipient of the prize. This was followed by a Blessing Ngobeni initiative where four young artists participated in several workshops and were part of a group show at the Room gallery. The 2018 prize winner was Simphiwe Buthelezi who was invited to SABC News show (Morning Live) to speak about work and recent exhibition at Bag factory. In 2019 the Prize will be officially launching with a group exhibition at Aspire Art Auctions.
